Didn’t I drop the argument out of my own volition, and apologized to the guy I was arguing with?
I just don’t want to fight over it anymore.

Merriweather haters love bashing the writer, but can’t take the heat themselves. Pretty much same old bully behavior.

The real Rainbow Dash would have knocked over Mare-Do-Well the second time she saw her and sampled that candyvag, because the real Rainbow Dash, as we all know, is a raging butch lespone.
Background Pony #E8DC
Um. RD was never publicly humiliated. The townsfolk just stopped caring about RD because they were on a superhero fad. Also, her wrangling with Mare Do Well was where no pony was around to see it. There is no major, terrible subtext. Antiheroes are not people like Superman. Like others say, think more of the Phantom or Batman.

I see the dust has settled, and relative peace has come to this thread.

F that, I’m still laughing at “would the REAL Rainbow Dash…”

“That’s not the way they’re supposed to be written! You can’t do that, Merri!”
“I just did! MWAAAHAHAHAHAHA! AND THERE’S NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT!”

^That doesn’t happen.

I’m sorry if I drove you to that, I didn’t knew that my rants had a effect THAT negative on other people.
Therefore, from now on, my rants about MMDW shall be relegated to jokes.

I mean, Jesus Christ, you wrote a entire fricking essay on why I shouldn’t hate the episode?

>Now, ask yourself, would the REAL Rainbow Dash seriously put her ego above the lives of other ponies?

Yeah. She’s done that before. Sure, not like that, but it’s like in Party of One, or Lesson Zero, except with Rainbow.

how the fuck is she supposed to stop a bursting dam?

That she herself cost? Seriously, she’s the one that made it burst. She wanted praise for fixing it, and even took the time to pat herself on the back.

>and every member acting radically out of character and backstabbing their friends for no good reason.

It’s also funny how people claim that the episode didn’t get the characters right… yet they seriously think they are “fixing it” by portraying the other five (And the whole freaking town) as evil masterminds that would make Gendo Ikari shudder, and reduce Rainbow Dash to a crying whiny poor little victim (Instead of, you know, just having her snaping out of it).

What most people complain about is the characterization somehow completely forgoes what was presented for any of the mane 6 in either previous eps or all of season 1, or both.

>or if the episode magically becomes good.

(backs away slowly) Someone needs to take a long, cold shower…

>This episode is shit, plain and simple, nobody, NOBODY is in character, everyone is twisted and mutated in order to fit the plot, which isn’t good anyway.

Because you’re such an expert on the dynamic characterization of magical talking horses, right? I guess that’s what happens when you let fanon cloud your mind. Seriously, this was on par with the rest of the episodes as far as characterization goes.

The need for MDW is immensely simple. If it wasn’t anonymous, the lesson is no good. The point is that the action is more important than the person, which is what Dash forgot. There was no cruelty or malice in their actions, they praised someone else, all within the confines of their own skill sets, and they made sure to reveal their deception in a back alley to spare Dash’s reputation. I have yet to see a good reason for all the hate this episode gets.

Dash on the other hand was holding conferences extolling her awesome feats, dancing around, and showing off that freaky-looking baby for everypony to see. She got her thanks every time, her celebrations, photos, her autograph demanded, even Spike as a Ghost Writer and she wanted an extra amount of congratulations? Things only started going downhill when Dash became concerned for her recognition rather than even the thanks. You know, that thing you get after saving a pony’s life to show her effort was appreciated? When she’s not needed, she’s not needed. No danger, no hero needed. Thus, it becomes a sad affair to resort to pushing Granny Smith around or mowing the lawn or being unable to open a jar. Yet she expected everypony to pay attention to her for even that.

After taking the time to think back on her actions, which were focused on grabbing attention and not on performing heroic deeds, Dash was STRONG enough to it that she had gotten carried away. The girls saw what Dash was heading for and tried to curb her behavior because that’s what friends do. They don’t simply leave nor do they try to make you someone you’re not. They bring you back to who you really are.

Friendship isn’t “happiness”. It’s a bond that’s there in both good times and bad. It’s where you can be your true self and be secure that your friends will right you when you stray away from your true self. Dash is able to be loyal because first and foremost she understands her friends’ intentions even when their actions at first seem baffling. She’s able to see that the ponies she designates as her friends should act in her best interests. Which was why, back in “Griffon the Brushoff” Dash recognized that Gilda simply wasn’t the friend she thought she was.

Mare-do-Well’s first appearance happened when Dash was more concerned about g autographs than immediately saving that balloon-riding-pony. Mare-do-Well then appeared when Dash was spending more time saying her “catchphrase” than immediately taking to task on stopping that tour cart. It’s obvious that Dash would have more of a chance to succeed if she were more focused on saving those ponies than running the whole superhero-schtick. For the collapsing construction site, Dash simply was unable to do everything by herself. The addition of Mare-do-Well was what saved ALL the ponies from any harm. The dam breaking? a direct result of Dash wanting to fix it herself rather than having a construction pony to do so.

Rainbow Dash thought her friends didn’t want her to “be a hero” at the reveal. Consider however, Dash’s acts of “heroism” especially when MDW shows up and its obvious that Dash was more focused on the attention than the saving of ponies (and that freaky-looking baby) Embarrassment WAS had for Dash, but she’s confident in her own abilities to know that she isn’t any less of a pony, and able to recognize that, yeah, she did get carried away. Dash isn’t defined by her element of Loyalty, but its her ability to trust in her friends’ intentions that she did not hate her friends for their actions nor become paranoid that they suddenly hated her because they deceived her.

Dash needs a rival. She only becomes humble when she’s knows how much of an asshat she’s become. Which doesn’t happen a lot.
I never seen her take reasoning as a means to maker her less cocky. She’ll just shrug it off because of her weird hero complex.

Yeah… they should have left all those ponies die, that wouldn’t have destroyed her spirit at all, being responsible for the their deaths by not saving them for letting her ego get in the way… totally…

I sincerely hope that someday this fandom will let its misconceptions about this episode just die and move on as it did eventually with Pinkie Keen. Of course, that will probably happen after the next episode that doesn’t have a crystal clear moral but at least it will be new.

Now, ask yourself, would the REAL Rainbow Dash seriously put her ego above the lives of other ponies? Really?
Not to mention that there were situations that Rainbow Dash couldn’t do dick about, even if she wasn’t bragging, how the fuck is she supposed to stop a bursting dam?
Party of One and Lesson Zero had the decency to be funny, at the very least, not to mention that they didn’t involve each and every member acting radically out of character and backstabbing their friends for no good reason.
And no, I won’t get over it, It was a bad story then, and it’s still a bad story now, and I will rave about it until it’s erased from history, I finally piss the wrong person and get killed, or if the episode magically becomes good.

This episode is shit, plain and simple, nobody, NOBODY is in character, everyone is twisted and mutated in order to fit the plot, which isn’t good anyway.

And they didn’t publicly humiliate Rainbow; she did that on her own. All MDW did was show up, save lives, and leave. It was Rainbow that made it into a big deal, and cared more about the spot light than saving lives, which is why MDW showed up in the first place; RD’s ego was making her screw up so badly that if MDW didn’t show up, RD’s reputation would’ve been shot down because lives would’ve been lost (or at least sent to the hospital) I think that would’ve been a lot more damaging.
Background Pony #E13B
@441TheSecond
What else would they do? What about Party of One, where they where hiding a party from Pinkie to surprise her, and she went bat shit crazy? Or when Twilight was late for a report, and her friends blew her off?

Really, it’s been a year now. Get over it.

You must have watched a different version of the episode, because that’s EXACTLY what happened.
Even if they they didn’t intend to make Rainbow Dash feel like crap, THEY DID.
And the episode still made no fucking sense, WHY, oh WHY, Is that the first solution that they think for the problem? They don’t even bring up another alternative, not even confronting her directly about it.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

If you think C is what actually happened in the episode you are deluded.

At what point did RD’s friends set out to “publicly humiliate” her? There is no freaking way you can say that was their intention.
