I don’t think Discord was ever “evil”.
He reminds me of Puck from Gargoyles. Yeah Puck was a dick at times, but he was never really evil, just a trickster. Im thinking the moral will be sometimes you can’t change someone completely, but you may be able to keep them from being an ass all the time :3

Although I’ll be okay with anything, I just want to see the show and its story line progress, if they were to keep all of the characters the same with no major plot changes or new directions they run the risk of stagnation.
So far everything else has been okay, Discord is a pretty big character so I’m sure they thought this through.
It doesn’t have to be TOO drastic of a change. Maybe they’ll at least get him on the ‘neutral’ side of the scale of good vs. evil.
Hell, getting him at a state where he isn’t literally flipping Equestria upside-down at any given time would probably be deemed a success.

If the mane6 (the spirits of the elements) can’t use the elements when they are “discorded”, then perhaps Discord also can’t use his power when “harmonized”.

Discord turns good:
Moral: Anyone can change if just given the chance.
Discord stays evil:
Moral: Some people can’t be reasoned with. They can’t be bought or bullied. Some people just want to watch the world burn.
Moral: Some people are awful, horrible pricks that aren’t worth your time.

I think they’re just trying to make him less of a douche; he’d still be a free-spirit, but he wouldn’t hurt others in the process.
