I wish we could of gotten this, but at the same time in the new show, have them go to the G5 Equestria where the movie takes place… I would do anything to have my precious Dash be alive again…
One of the cons of getting into MLP late (in 2020)… Sigh
@TheRocketMan
They should have at least shown what happened to Luna and Celestia after the timeskip.
They were major characters and even caused this whole thing by retiring, its just jarring they didn’t bother showing us how are they doing after the timeskip.
@Background Pony #3EA3
Weird flex but OK.
Besides, canon doesn’t work like that. Most fans do end up adapting to change, because most people realize that what a minority are calling worse episodes is just change.
Twilight became a Princess.
Starlight was redeemed.
The Student 6 are a thing.
The art style is chibi.
What gets left behind are a few people who are so zealous about what they like that they are completely unwilling to try something different, and so end up getting left behind. The folks who refuse to accept Twilight became a princess, or refuse to like Starlight.
@AspectofBlood21
Because it is “officially” canon doesn’t mean fans have to accept it as such if it’s terrible. “Oh wow, the writers are trashing a wholesome show even worse than the last seasons, I guess I have to accept it!” Fans can pick and choose what’s actually good.
@Aesop
Well, the story isnt actually over. Despite the neighsayers, season 10 is officially canon, and will serve to carry the story on.
And if you watch the Last Problem, it is clear she isnt ruling alone, the rest of the Mane 6 serve as a council, plus it looks like Flurry has assumed a leadership role from the window panes.
I certainly would have enjoyed getting a bit more alicorn lore or seeing different pony races learning each others magic but they failed doing it with Twilight.
And I didn’t quite enjoy that Twilight ended up as the lone ruler.
(They could have given her Sunset or at least Starlight at her side :S)

Seriously though, this is exactly what they did. They have been saying this is the end of FiM since February, then a week or two before the finale announced that the 10th season is coming.
Edited
I am talking about after the 20 year timeskip.
Not during sometime after the coronation but still long before the 20 year mark.
Season 10 comics.

And yeah, what is the source??
Cooooomic
The show had developed such a huge cast over the years it would’ve been impossible to go over every single one.
