I don’t wanna suggest we should limit what should or is posted. For you, perhaps it’s irrelevant. That’s fine. Me, I care about what motivations, and I’m glad to call out BS when I see it. I have no desire to suggest whether the image should be allowed on the site. As an archive.. sure, whatever. I don’t have a stake in classifying the purpose of the site. If that’s enougb for you, great.
For me, I call BS when I see it, regardless of the ‘technicality’ of the situation. There’s nothing technically wrong with the pic or it being posted. But c’mon. Come, the fuck, on. We know why. Let’s at least be real. That’s all I care about.

I’d say its both the reason it should be allowed, and the reason it should be posted. The whole point of this site from the beginning has been an archive. People have attached other meaning to it as time as gone on, but at the bottom line, this place is an archive. Whether any specific thing made will upset people there or not, as long as its not rule breaking, is irrelevant.

You’re really just pointing out that the image is allowable on the site. I would agree with that, and I never suggested it violates the site’s posting guidelines at face value. Obviously the content of the image is allowable; it’s just pony stuff.
However, pointing out whether it’s allowable or not says nothing of the reason the image was posted, the motivations of the poster who posted it, or the (obvious) effect it was meant to have. It’s not helpful to analyze the image in a vacuum while ignoring the greater context of the situation.

I don’t think anyone having a good faith argument here would disagree that people should be able to have opinions and share them. But this situation doesn’t really lend itself to that example very well. It’s not a single person sharing an opinion for one, it’s a group consensus. For two, the original purpose of the poll was for the benefit of that other group and not DB, as #3F37 suggested. That seems believable to me. So it isn’t the singular opinion of an individual being shared in this case, it’s the consensus of a group being spread, likely without them knowing, by a single person, into another group.
Besides, it’s hard to buy into this ‘harmless sharing of ideas’ shtick when the opposing group is actively trying to prevent DB s from coming to share their opinions in the poll. Please keep it real. That’s obviously not what’s going on here.

It’s pretty hard to have a civil discussion about anything when you have brick-throwers in the sidelines.
Someone came here, posting the pic, knowing it was going to start some shit. And some people took the bait, because someone always takes the bait. It’s the oldest story on the Internet, and it’s pretty insulting to anyone’s intelligence to try and play it off as a harmless misunderstanding by a hapless and unwitting bystander.

FYI, you guys have won. /mlp/ is so frantically trying to gatekeep Derpibooru that the recent questions have have basically struck out a shitload of votes because not even oldfags of /mlp/ know the answers to the questions, as a result the threads are full of infighting and it’s all been soured.

Well I think it’s obvious that the purpose is to show that having opinions is wrong, particularly when you’re among a group that hates another group. Stop having opinions. Stop having mass votes of opinions to find the majority opinion. Get all up in the others business if they have an opinion. Especially if it’s different.
There’s a competition of best pony… it’s run by another website. Caters to of the other website. Has gatekeeping features on the website to try and prevent those outside the group from participating.
So why was this posted here, exactly? Who does it appeal to?
If, by ission, the contest’s results cater to a different group… and that group doesn’t want any involvement from Derpibooru, what, then, is the actual purpose of posting it here? If it’s true that the interests of the groups are different, then people on Derpibooru aren’t likely to agree with the selections. They can’t participate. And judging by the highly negative reaction to this series of images, it seems clear that they are generating little-to-no value for Derpibooru.
What’s the purpose.
