I believe the artist is trying to convey the dialogue in emotion. Basically it’s a bloodlusted Ember feeling fear for a brief moment then becoming defiant and angry Spike challenged her.
Calling it now, Ember and Rarity will beg for mercy and when Spike shows them weakness they’ll exploit that to kill him again. You heard it here first!
