Much points to it. There are too many hints involving Twilight and the Winter Wishday, especially Wishing Star in C3 and TYT, this was done as subtly as possible by the G5 teams for the fans to figure this out on their own. The decorations from the royal castle in Canterlot in the last episode of S9 were reused in the concert hall, right down to the star itself which was not Twilight’s cutie mark, but a symbol of her. Also, the Unity Crystals reacted with the Wishing Star, which turned out to be magical, as a sparkling shooting star.
Opaline’s own reaction is telling; she was in total shock, then in deep envy, beside herself with rage and was not completely sane for the rest of the episode as Misty tried to abduct Sparky.
Already in G4 it was seen that Twilight Sparkle is often associated with a sparkling star. A pony name is special; this is often about the pony’s talent, spiritual qualities and destiny. Celestia and Luna may have ended up being assimilated by the celestial bodies - a theory that has been speculated ever since the first season of G4. This could be Twilight’s final fate. But it is also possible that she had been transformed into a star as punishment.
Twilight is not officially dead in G5 according to Hasbro. And Argyle knew already in the movie that Twilight is an alicorn, Sunny recognized the hologram in the Unity Crystals.

What about the beginning of the movie or the part in “The Traditional Unicorn Sleep-over” where Twilight is clearly said to be a unicorn by Sunny?
Opaline was talking about a different Twilight. That earth pony one. That hologram was a mistake the writers made since it was supposed to show an earth pony Twilight instead. Yeah, it was huge mistake but they also made a big one in s01e2 with Luna after her defeat.
I can’t wait to see who is that “Twilight Sparkle”.
