If he wasn’t a dragon, Opaline wouldn’t target him because he wouldn’t have the dragonfire ability. But young of any species get into plenty of trouble if their parent/guardian isn’t keeping a watchful eye on them.

I’ve got a better one: what if Twilight Sparkle is Sunny’s mom and she became such a flawless being that she turned into a wishing star to watch over her daughter?
But also not sure what this image is even meant to be saying. He’s a dragon. And he needed to be a dragon for the plot. And if he was anything else, he’d still be “cute” and annoying more than anything else. Griffy Featheroni and Changey Switcheroni are not better characters.

I’m sure that G5 will get other races besides ponies in the series later. We didn’t get Princess Ember and her race of Dragons until Season 6’s ‘Gauntlet of Fire’ ep. so it might be a while before we finally see other races besides ponies in G5. We just have to wait for a few more Seasons of G5 first before that happens.
Again, let’s the G5 is set thousands of years in the future. There’s no signs of changelings, griffons, or even dragons, so perhaps they just got extinct in the past.
