Yes but since a lot of people don’t think the comics do a good job at matching the canon of what the show established, a lot of people are either not aware or have disregarded it.

That’s fair and I do agree that is unlike them, despite all the heavy crimes the Mean 3 have just done. I mean even Twilight was pitying them when Chrysalis was yelling her empty threats. I have no idea if this was the intention of the writing team at the time or now but at least the fandom can decide their future fates if we wished.
I guess I was disappointed that the Princesses listened to Discord so quickly, instead of taking a few minutes to calm down and decide what to do with the Mean 3, including consulting Twilight. After all, the trio weren’t going anywhere. Rational thinking and decisions are what I had come to expect of the sisters.

discord probably wouldn’t have suggested it if not for sisters to be fair. as he never suggested it back in s6 after chrystal defeat. but either way as u see in that they got free later:

I’m sorry to know that this scene changed your opinions on the Royal Sisters. Personally, I can’t hate Celestia and Luna for this. Discord on the other hand, he had no right to decide their fates since this was his whole fault to begin with it. Regardless, even before Discord butted in, the Villain trio were going to be get punished big time.
But don’t worry, I like to think they were reformed at a later time after Twilight’s coronation.
