Wrong, Ember. Christina Rice was the one who wrote “Wings Over Yakyakistan”.

Spike became rich writing fan fiction
Fun fact. Spike makes one billion beats a week from his own fanfiction.
Oh that Spike…🙄
@7urmoil
At least they’re trying to address the writing.
Yes it is fair to complain that they’re using this as an excuse rather than show the “fixed” versions and only addressing this long after it might have calmed fans.
I don’t know what Jeremy Whitley was thinking when he wrote this story…
Trying to excuse the writer’s poor writing skill by piling the blame of inconsistency on a fictional character…

Spike didn’t use his fire cause Spike at your service is an infamously poorly written episode simple as, there are multiple other times where he actually does use his fire when appropriate (a few times in season 8 and 9 which you can interpret as implied character development). If anything you can actually make an argument that he willingly rejected his “dragon heritage” (he still didn’t but for the sake of argument let’s pretend) not because of twilight but because of how he was treated by garble and that he wouldn’t meet an actual nice dragon until Ember. Hell some theorize that his whole “dragon code” is him wanting to be a good guy dragon unlike garble after his bad experience with him. Half this guys whole character arc throughout the show is just him going “I’m pony but also le dragon”. And his “independence” like bro you know he’s still a kid what do you want him to do? I know this site likes to pretend “wel achkshully he’s a teenager” for some reason but this is a all headcanon. The show doesn’t mention spike becoming old enough to leave until the literal last episode and the timeskip implies he lives by himself and if you want to go by the comic then doubly so, season 9 mane 6 clearly see spike as dragon and honestly this nonsense looks like it died in season 2 where it belonged until the garbage comics brought it back for some reason for forced drama despite it making no sense

i’m referring to what Ember’s saying right there - that sounds like a weird thing to complain about when she was willing to step into Kyzaghan’s dance floor over one dragon not too long before.
@Mildgyth
Correct this is not canon contradictingly OOC. If anything this is in line with canon and all the other times otherwise nice character acted poorly in canon.
But on the subject of canon contradicting OOC (beyond what can be explained by not knowing better or saying it improved the story)…

Taking notes is something anyone other than a dragon can do! You see, Twilight gave Spike a better life, but he lost his dragon identity and lost his independence!
For example, in Season 3 Episode 9, Spike didn’t have to be chased by Timber Wolves, he would have started a camp fire using his fire breath or drove the Timber Wolves away! I can’t understand how a dragon that shoots fire from its mouth is powerless against four-legged firewoods on a sunny day without rain!
I could make at least 2 more comments like this on the subject of Spike losing his dragon identity and losing his independence living with Twilight!
@Background Pony #35AE
Where did the comic creators it to regretting their work? It would be interesting to see why.
I think the problem with this comics explainaion is that it didn’t do this sooner. We’d been more accepting of it’s problems and it’s positive contributions if we had this explain it. And it might have done something more constructive with the explanation than this which this pic points out raises more issues.
The Transformers crossover was the best thing to come out in a long while because it made clear it wasn’t trying to be canon and focused on fun. If the main comics did this sooner or became an official alternate continuity free to do it’s own thing…
@Background Pony #EC1A
Could you define “to begin with”? The first issue? First with a canon error? First unpopular one? Or first the show unambiguously decanonized?
And given their offical policy of canon until contracdiced by the show, how do those that contradict canon decanonize those that don’t? Or is any more valid than decanonizing episodes that have similar problems?
@Background Pony #18F9
Look ill be real here, I have no idea why people complain about spikes lack of biological “parents”. The dragon lands have been repeatedly shown to be an all around awful place so frankly twilight gave him a better life then the dragons ever would have given him living a pretty comfy life where all he has to do is write notes.
Background Pony #EC1A
Well then I guess it is a good thing that the comics were already non-canon to begin with.
Background Pony #18F9
Hey if it makes you feel better, Ember, Spike also written the Mane 6 to be super racist towards dragons despite, oh I dunno, being friends with one from the pilot.
The sad truth is that Spike is a character who is at the center of discrimination. In Dragon Land, large and despicable dragons harass little Spike, who has no family, and Mane 6 ignores Spike’s dragon identity.
Background Pony #18F9
In Dragon Land, big and mean dragons harass little Spike, who has no family. Using Spike, who is discriminated against in Dragon Land, in a war between yaks and dragons! It’s impudent. Princess Ember isn’t a very good character either! I don’t understand why people say “Ember is the best dragon”!

@Incursor
Doesn’t change the fact that the art for many issues were bad, some of the authors even itted they weren’t proud of their work and wished they did better with the mirror arc
Oh and they pretty much said, it’s not connected to the show, but it’s fun content for fans.
Not everything is the MCU
@Background Pony #5EC3
All Sombra’s return did was decanonize that particular comic arc, which was canon prior to that. The comics policy of canon until contradicted by the show holds true, more-so in this one. Spike being guilty of bad writing/failing to improve the story as the errors were supposed to is a separate complaint than canon status.
And yes I was using OOC overly broadly for any objectionable character moments. But the show has had those as well as the comics so that alone is not grounds for dismissal.
@Background Pony #F8C9
So Starlight Glimmer, the changelings redemption, the School of Friendship, Twilight replacing Celestia and Luna, and Star Swirl/ the Element’s origins were not such changes or drama? Or how were they better handled such not to get the condemnation the comics get?
The comics are problematic, but it’s unfair to ignore the show has them to.

@Background Pony #5EC3
Agreed, this was just an attempt to say “I lied…so what?”

Uh…huh.
Yeah, Sombra’s exitance alone breaks any “canon” the comics might’ve had, and most people don’t know what OOC actually is, so…
@Background Pony #F8C9
The comic is seriously trash.

The Season 8 premiere had Ember and the other races threaten war. And this comic could have been before “Triple Threat” where she actually learned to be less aggressive.
@Background Pony #F8C9
Don’t pretend that canon didn’t have characters acting OOC jerkish or idiotic as well. Just because it’s unlikeable doesn’t mean it’s not true.
But yes this explanation does have issues (not giving examples of how these changes made a better story, a child’s work being professionally published without updating it). I intend to add my own example of this in time.
Background Pony #F8C9
Imma just stick to the canon of the show of Friendship is Magic. I don’t need to even entertain the drama and oddities that are bound to occur by changing the established lore, characters, and their purpose within Equestria.
