For the uneducated, Tom was basically the Yoko Ono in popular fan consciousness of Daria. He literally showed up out of nowhere (all right, he showed up at a party, but still), was supposed to be a love interest to Jane, but instead ended up with Daria, who was supposed to be involved with Jane’s brother Trent at the time. It felt really forced, even if they tried their damnedest to have his personality as a foil to Daria’s.
