Actually, a mouse and a rat are not the same; they are distinct species within the same Muridae family. Rats are significantly larger (11-19 inches long) with coarse fur, blunt snouts, and scaly tails, whereas mice are smaller (6-7 inches long) with large ears, pointed noses, and slender, hairy tails.
Mostly because The Nutcracker is a difficult ballet to adapt in other mediums due to emphasis on visual performance over narrative (being based on a short story doesn’t help).

As far as I know, this commission has nothing to do with Forgotten Friendship. You’d have to ask the commissioner why Sunset Shimmer isn’t in this, though. I have no idea.
@Sapphire Star
No kidding. I still have the VHS I watched the hell out of as a child (most of us the movie through that; the theatrical release was ruined by Disney spiting their ex-employee by re-releasing The Lion King that same weekend).
King Philip of Dor: Get…me…that…rat!
Basil of Baker Street: Arrest that fiend!

Seconding this. The Nutcracker Ballet is less narrative and more a series of Christmassy visual vignettes.
mouse and rat is the same
I was definitely inspired by Ratigan in my design.
Mouse Thug: Yeah, that’s right. Right! A mouse.
Lizard Thug: Yeah, a big mouse!

No, Forgotten Friendship. Sunset Shimmer isn’t in this image.
Actually, That’s Rollercoaster of Friendship.
The Swan Princess still has a cult following, though. It’s definitely worth introducing to the next generation!

I will always, always think of the 90s animated Swan Princess.

ballet-style beatdown commences
I’ve seen it done both ways, and “Rat King” sounds more threatening.
