Tech /IT has got to be one of the most thankless/frustrating jobs in the world. I can speak from at least a little experience there.
Too damn many times the same tech-illiterate people call in again and again, somehow doing the same mistake over and over, always while proclaiming “they didn’t do anything”.
I once had to make a house call for someone, and while I was trying to fix her computer she relayed a story about how her own son refuses to help her because he says she just “pushes buttons at random and doesn’t know what she’s doing”. It was SO hard now to just turn around to her that her son is right that is exactly her problem. You’re not allowed to be rude to them though, oh no. Not even when they deserve it. Utterly frustrating experience.
“Okay, I can help you with that.” <10 script pages and 45 minutes of customer smalltalk and confusion and complaining about the service and 3 hours on hold later> “Let me transfer you to the correct department. One moment, please.” END CALL.
