Yeah. I heard from someone else here that Hasbro didn’t own most of the G4 characters, and The Hub/Discovery Family does, So Hasbro could only lease them. And because of the leasing costs, profit from G4 wasn’t great. But the popularity of G4 made Hasbro bite the cost bullet and keep producing it with The Hub. Otherwise it likely wouldn’t have lasted as long as it did. Apparently there was also some issues with G4 spike appearing in G5. So they drastically changed his appearance from what it was in the end of G4 for legal reasons, and because using an existing character model base was easier. G5 started out with a strong and well liked reception. But it was basically riding the coattails of G4. Once G5 had been out for a couple of years, it’s popularity went down. Leading to it’s cancellation after just three years. Unlike G4, which got 9 years with it’s main show, and then Equestria Girls and the Pony Life side series. Giving G4 over a decade of content. I’m not gonna act like I rabidly hate G5. But Hasbro could have done so much better with it, if they had just made it stand alone instead of setting it in the same world.

If the ratings for G5 were truly as good as G4 or better, then it would have lasted longer. Instead it ruined the history of G4, and is being canceled after two cartoons seasons and two movies. G4 had that much and more, with two spinoffs too. The popularity of G4 lasted an entire decade. And if G5 really had more viewers, then why is it being canceled after less than half the time G4 ran? They had a good premise with G5. They just didn’t implement it well. They should have never connected it to G4 to start with.

Compared to G4, G5 did bomb. It wasn’t nearly as well received, and they completely messed up the timeline by literally undoing everything Twilight had worked for. The problem is that Hasbro actually doesn’t own the G4 characters. Another company they were working with does. So Hasbro was technically leasing the characters. Which means each G4 episode was costing more than necessary to make. But it was so popular that they kept it going for 9 years, and gave it some movies and the Equestria Girls spinoff. But G5 didn’t receive nearly the same level of acclaim. I think the biggest problem with G5 was they connected it with G4, instead of making it stand on it’s own. It’s rumored that G6 will actually be a G4.5. But that may just be wishful thinking. Hasbro is gonna have to scramble hard to make G6 as well received as G4.

I’m old enough to be nostalgic about the 90s. But yeah, it’s a decade that feels like it wasn’t that long ago. Yet we’re already nearing 2025. And G4 MLP launched in 2010 I think. At this point the whole G4 fandom is nostalgic for days past. Especially since G5 bombed and is being ended so quickly.
