Honestly, I enjoyed studying and working from photo reference of ballerinas. Making sure the physicality was correct took a lot longer, but it was worth the extra effort, I think.
If that mutant beast I a a hybrid between a rat, a wolf, and cockroach, then what kind of creature is it? That beast is about to tear up/eat Rarity’s dress.

I really, really appreciate your detailed comment! Thank you so much! I’m always delighted when others appreciate the time and effort I put into my art, especially in the details. While the idea wasn’t mine, it really was nice to have an excuse to study photo references of ballerinas. I’m glad I was able to capture their physicality to your satisfaction.
Oh wow, I missed this going up but a comment on your other Nutcracker pic led me to look to see what you’ve been up to. I’m so glad it did.
There are too many amazing details to call them all out, but I especially love Rainbow’s position in the Sweets , and AJ’s in Waltz of the Flowers–both perfectly capture the feel of ballet, incorporating such precise and elegant movements into every aspect of the dance, not just the flashy highlights like Twilight in Sweets. Not that Twilight isn’t lovely there, of course. And speaking of lovely, can we talk about Fluttershy’s final bow? Please?
I wanted to end on Fluttershy, but I’ve got to give props to Rainbow out-Mary Martining Mary Martin. And really, lots of other things too, but I’m going to shut up now and just say that I truly ire the skill, time, artistry, and attention that this piece clearly took. This is a thing of beauty.
You’d have to ask the commissioner as the composition of the beast was their idea.
Thank you!
This is what the commissioner wanted, so this is what I gave them.

Thanks for the applause!

Yeah. They look so beautiful and they danced beautifully. No wonder why this is a dance fight against four monsters.
I don’t know- I looked that version up and now I’m traumatized. 😱
