Keep in mind that one of the reasons why thereâs âproud to be autisticâ posts can be because a lot of people with autism are shunned (if not abused) simply for being autistic and this can be a way of both fighting that and letting other autistic people know that thereâs nothing to be ashamed about regarding themselves. The same exact thing applies to LGBT Pride and people who talk about being happy to be queer.

Oh, sorry for my ranting then, I just seen way too many of those âproud to be an autistâ posts on the internet. Yeah, being aware that autism doesnât just mean âyouâre a weirdoâ and is actually a scale from âpretty much a normal personâ to what most people associate autism with can be positive.
@ElectricRodent
autism acceptance isnât about being special or celebrated, itâs about acceptance and understanding. if more people understood autism, it wouldnât be seen as such a negative thing.
Iâm autistic myself, and I donât understand why people think itâs something to be celebrated.
âWowee, Iâm bad at socializing and have weird obsessions! Iâm SOOO special, my parents told me so!â
Geez.
