I didn’t say they weren’t being trained for combat. I meant that they couldn’t train as much as normal soldiers because they also have to train for weather management and its formations.

If they aren’t being trained for a fight, they why are they being fielded in the first place?
Heck, we know that grabbing a bunch of pegasi off the street can get you wide scale weather control, so why aren’t they just giving the rank and file a quick course in steering tornados?

I don’t think they’d have nearly as much training for combat. Their raw strength isn’t going to matter much against armies that train for nothing but melee.

That still raises the question of why they couldn’t just switch to formations designed for close combat. Even if they don’t know that blade wing trick used by some of the Wonderbolts, being powerful weather controllers would still require being strong flyers and athletes.
Having them be weak up close makes sense for balance reasons, it just doesn’t jell well with the setting.

The strormbringers use different formations than regular troops when changing the weather, and apparently the formations aren’t as good for actual combat.
Hmmn. We’ve seen that weather control in the show is directly reliant upon physical ability. What are the stormbringers doing that makes them strong controllers but weak close fighters?

He talks about it more like a RTS than a table wargame, explaining how The Cult of Laughter starts weak but becomes the strongest, or how Stormwing is the best at moving bases.
