@CrispiSalad
Agreed
Honestly its like calling yourself stupid
Its basically saying βi am INCREDIBLY DUMB!β
and honestly? When you have stupid moments why not?
To those saying the use of the word is bad in any case: No. I call myself that all the time and I donβt mind being called that, it doesnβt bother or offend me as someone who is diagnosed and a lot of other autistic people share this opinion. You donβt speak for us all. The image even lightly pokes fun at the people who want to be called that as a fetish and yes they exist
@RetroPony89
There is no reason for anyone to be offended (or even demand that you shouldnβt use the word retard) if two consenting adults call each other retarded for shits and giggles. Restricting language does more harm than protecting the feelings of people who are not even directly insulted. If someone where to directly call you retarded for any condition in an insulting way rather than a mutually joking way, then of course you are right and in many countries laws against that kind of insulting exist. But banning a word outright is anti-free speech in its core because I you canβt trust any government to create a βfairβ list of words you legally cannot say.
Thank you, RetroPony89, for agreeing with me on the fact that the βRβ word is offensive & should not be used at all. It is a word that should only be used about an object, never, ever towards a person like here.
@Eragor14
I donβt agree about autism becoming a fetish. I just think that, removed from that context, this is a cute drawing. I take it with a grain of salt.
I am high functioning as well (diagnosis is ASD), which is part of the reason why I am so bothered by the βautism fetishβ tag. We shouldnβt be fetishizing mental disorders.
@Background Pony #62EE
I was diagnosed with Aspergers (now generalized as a form of high functioning autism in modern times) when I was three, lived with it my whole life so far, mixed with both neurotypicals and fellow autistics (the latter in /social groups) over the years, my community and I still find this cute and funny.
@Background Pony #62EE
Yeah, I have autism (as if I have to specify, being here) and my response to hearing it was considered a slur was βThatβs retardedβ, your experience may vary, but varying is exactly why responses like this canβt be reasonable, if you let people misusing an insult (mentally slow) as a medical term β followed by people using it as an insult β ruin a perfectly normal French word for you, youβll likely live a sad, paranoid life trying to avoid saying anything that might some day become a slur;
Also, trying to stop people from using something as an insult because it used to be a medical term makes them move to the current medical term and use that as an insult.
@Background Pony #62EE
grow a thicker skin. I have a disability myself and I like it when my friends call me retard. We roast each other. If you want to police how people speak you are anti free speech.
That βRβ word is such a vile, nasty word. Donβt ever call anyone that or use it towards a person, disgusting. You should be ashamed of yourself for doing this, itβs not funny or cute, itβs not cool at all.
see this guy gets it

Itβs more to a different group than autistic people like me(unless they wanted to use it on me which case :( but otherwise yeah)
Meh ill be ok
The R-word is never acceptable to use, no matter what.
The R-word is very hurtful to autistic people. Letβs just stop using it, OK?

The world is a very, very strange place.
It is. There are all sorts of fetish. There is voice fetish, eye fetish, plushie fetish. You name it.
