Although I have HUGE complaints about the ending of the first book, it was absolutely cringe-worthy and awful. And a few chapters before the end are the same, mostly the pony stuff. But otherwise, it’s brilliant.
The second book is also wonderful, but I’m only halfway through it.
This is pretty accurate to how I name my rockets too; original design is something like “Duna Roverlander”, but with each iteration the names get more frustrated until the final model that actually makes the landing is called something like the Shitfuck.

And I don’t know what Cherry Berry’s problem is - the capsule CLEARLY is not immediately destroyed, and might possibly even might have maybe some chance of surviving smashing into the vehicular assembly building! While it has no actual Chrysalis/Cherry Berry shipping, Changeling Space Program is legit the best FIM fanfic I’ve ever read; it started as a Kerbal Space Program playthrough and became a fanfic set in an amazingly in-character and canon-feeling version of (pre-Changedling) Equestria where Chrysalis realizes that the Moon holds enormous power and anycreature who lands on it could claim that power to conquer the world, so she sets out to build a space program from scratch. She needs a Pony flight expert and test pilot, and since Cherry Berry’s application to be a pilot with the Equestrian Space Agency got rejected for horse racism reasons, Berry hires on with the CSP instead.
Fanfic Queen Chrysalis blew up fewer rockets in Horse Texas than the apartheid emerald manbaby has blown up in Texas Actual despite the first Changeling model being a literal cardboard box, and she got to be the first quadruped on the Moon.
