As a windigo, Spindle can only interact with the physical world through cryokinesis, and her overall powers are far less than Parcly’s. She sees in her alicorn genie friend a way of doing things she cannot do herself, such as conjuring objects – comfortable in the knowledge that (almost) any wish she makes will be fulfilled. She does not normally have many wishes to make though.
In return for this magical Spindle takes good care of the Albumin Flask. The fact that genie bottles are portable homes for their inhabitants is not lost on the windigo; she regularly cleans it, carries it on her back when Parcly is tired (a spirit can never get tired) and sometimes decorates it. She also rubs the Flask to wake Parcly up if she does not come out by herself (in my universe of genies, including non-MLP ones like Tori Taxel, genies enjoy a regular sleep cycle even when inside their vessels).

The inspiration for geniefying Parcly came from NavitasErusSirus’s Twixie Genies blog and a few genie ponies done by Karol Pawlinski, one of which I vectored:
In Parcly’s backstory, the new alicorn had read tales of Saddle Arabian genies and was curious about what these creatures felt, given their lack of lower bodies. She’d already obtained the requisite spells for geniefying herself - all she needed was the bottle, for which she took a volumetric flask from the chemistry lab and enlarged it a bit. She ended up embracing this alternate form, and currently takes delight in granting wishes from others.
Unlike most other genies across the furry fandom (which I take to include MLP), Parcly is a free genie. She is not limited in wish count, can refuse wishes for any reason and can bind and unbind herself from the bottle as she pleases; she has her hind legs intact when not bound.
The platinum horn ring both symbolises her status as a genie and amplifies her magic (rather than inhibiting it).
Back in the Canterlot library, Parcly discovered that she had a sponge memory – she could understand every spell in a spellbook in a single read-through, and write her own ones quickly given sufficiently many sheets of working paper. One night she peered through a telescope and saw the Milky Way, knowing that it was not the whole universe and that other galaxies like it lay farther still.
“Knowledge is like the universe,” Spindle reminded her. “There will always be some bits of it you can never reach.”
“Sure,” Parcly replied, “but I will be the one who organises all of what we do know, like how a galaxy keeps stars in its fold.” She earned her galaxy cutie mark after that.
Princess Luna heard of Parcly and Spindle and decided to take the young unicorn under her tutelage. When Twilight became an alicorn, Luna felt that Celestia’s former pupil needed to be balanced against in some way, so she promoted Parcly to an alicorn. [It might be cheesy, but this part of the backstory was written shortly after Magical Mystery Cure.]
Note that Parcly had not yet bound herself to her genie bottle - this will be explained in the next comment.
Spindle is the spirit of an earth pony called Rocinante who got lost on a snowy mountain and froze to death.
A windigo attack spreads an aggressive magical cancer in the pony’s body, which will claim their spirit within three days unless prompt treatment is istered. In Parcly’s case the doctors tried paclitaxel (the real chemotherapy agent), but the cancer was only slowed rather than going into remission. The unicorn would need to find somepony to befriend in order for the treatment to have any chance of success.
At the last moment, in her dreamscape of approaching walls of ice facing an angry Spindle, Parcly asked the windigo whether they could be friends. Immediately the ice walls shattered, revealing a snowy but calm field illuminated by the winter sun. The two creatures ended up chit-chatting, getting to know each other, until Parcly woke up.
It took another week for Parcly to be discharged, but her own spirit had been transformed into that of a windigo. Her would-be attacker had meanwhile gained the ability to feed on feelings other than hatred, as well as to leave and re-enter Parcly’s body at will (when not outside, Spindle resides in Parcly’s heart). Parcly took her name from the chemotherapy agent, then named Spindle for the structure which said agent binds to, and the two have been best friends ever since.
.
What’s the horn ring for? Usually an inhibiter ring.
And Parcly is physically in this new form after discharge, or is this an alt form Parcly can enter?

Spindle is the spirit of an earth pony called Rocinante who got lost on a snowy mountain and froze to death. In my headcanon windigos can be formed this way, when winter magic reshapes a pony’s soul into one of its carriers. The other main method of creating a windigo is for an existing one to attack a pony, preferably one full of hatred, and convert the pony to their form and cause. In any case, though, the newly minted windigo still re their past life as a pony.
Parcly (the main characters did not have their present names at this time) was born a unicorn to a pegasus couple, so the family had to move from Cloudsdale to Canterlot. When she was a blank flank teenager she grew upset of her parents, which she perceived as controlling and distant, and ran away to Canterlot’s library in the middle of winter. Spindle saw the unicorn all alone, sensed her hatred and swooped in, phasing into Parcly’s body and knocking her unconscious at the front door - she was rushed to hospital.

@Parcly Taxel
I’ve never seen a Windigo OC (and ghostly types are rare), and these 2 are frequently shown together. I’ve seen genie ponies before but very rarely as OCs. I’m curious about the origin story, how they met, why are they shown together so frequently, I initially got the impression they were a couple but don’t see related tags.

How does Spindle feel about the Genie status? Does Spindle ever wish for things?

What exactly do you want to know?
