This is as close to canon as you can reasonably get, and was made from cross-referencing the various solar system models and orreries that appear in the show. Even if the order is wrong, I am 100% confident that there are five planets in the Solar System, plus one possible dwarf planet near the Sun. Things not represented: one of these planets has at least 14 moons. My bet would be Saturn (as it is canonically named), and the ‘asteroids’ are actually the planet’s other moons. But I couldn’t find anything to this.
If we want to get technical: the small body orbiting the Sun is probably a dwarf planet, like Pluto. The first true planet seems to have purple oceans, and may have been depicted with an atmosphere in one of its appearances. Equus and her Moon need no description. The third planet is probably a greenhouse world, like Venus. Its apparent size on the models was far too small to be a gas giant. Planet four is Saturn, a ringed gas giant with at least one Moon confirmed by two different pieces of evidence. Planet five is a mystery. Its surface texture was like a paint splatter, and its relative size was bigger than Saturn. Its moon even appears to have an atmosphere. Lastly, the comet comes from Canterlot’s orrery, and may represent the body responsible for the Centennial Meteor Shower as it makes its hundred-year journey around the system.

If we want to get pedantic, the solar system models this was based on came from The Crystalling and Celestial Advice. But beyond that, the idea there are other planets goes all the way back to the original art for the show. Saturn and its moon are depicted on the blue stained glass window in Celestia’s throne room, alongside three other planets beyond Equestria. You can see Saturn and its moon every time the theme song plays up until the throne room gets redesigned in S8. I don’t see how Pinkie daydreaming about visiting it would be the straw that breaks the camel’s back on that particular issue.

i’d love it if gen6 was sci-fi themed. but they’d probably never do it because some old man exec at hasbro thinks ‘girls don’t like sci-fi’
I can see why they never showed true outer space stuff like planets in anything except that Season 9 episode since it pretty much slices the disbelief suspension of the whole “manually raising sun/moon” thing (speaking like they don’t also handwave it in some instances while the two princesses are out of commission, see S6 finale). I’d say it’s kinda funny that Luna got pissy over getting stuck handling the smaller orb, but I mean…she IS going up against her sister swinging around the bigger light orb by considerable magnitude without a sweat, anyone’s easily more impressed by that.
Oh i know MANY girls like scifi
Its a nice topic!
Ah, I see. I that scene, just never knew they actually credited it as Saturn.

It’s listed in the credits of Sparkle’s Seven. Saturn has a speaking role in the episode
