ICE was created for that purpose. It is a duplicate organization as customs and border patrol pretty much does the same thing. It’s just that Customs and border patrol have answerable to congress rather than the president and so can not be used as a tool for political repression.
ICE was formed as a product of the ‘war on terror’ when civil rights were starting to become eroded more and more.

This is why many argue for ICE to be abolished rather than just defunded. It’s a superfluous organization when going off it’s official goal.

And they do not enforce laws of congress. They violate those laws, sanctuary cities are allowed by congress and they completely ignore those laws. ICE is a duplicate institution as customs and border patrol already exists and their point is to by those laws. The whole point of the resistance is that they do NOT abide by the law and do NOT respect people’s rights.

You immediately pull up everything else that happened AFTER the SA was already dissolved. We aren’t at that stage yet so we can’t say anything about that. I’m specifically talking about the function ICE serves and that I think it’s the same as the SA served and you haven’t really provided any arguments against that. The only thing you have said is that the SA was much larger and it certainly was but that doesn’t change the function it serves.

Try to keep it on topic. To ICE and the function it serves. Sure the US doesn’t have nearly as many concentration camps as the Nazi’s did. Doesn’t mean that Aligator Alcatraz and Quantanamo bay aren’t concentration camps though or that they don’t serve the same function.

I get the parallel you’re drawing. Some force stirs chaos so the bosses can pose as the solution. Still think comparing ICE to the SA is way off. The SA was a millions-strong party militia that murdered opponents and smashed democracy to hand the Nazis total power. ICE is a government agency enforcing bad laws Congress wrote, not a private terror squad out to destroy the state. You can slam ICE hard for family separations, awful conditions, profiling and deaths in custody and call it authoritarian and racist without it being SA level. The comparison just dilutes how extreme the real Nazi takeover was.

Trump is not a Hitler, its way too much. Hitler started world war 2, killed millions in the holocaust and built a total terror state. Trump was a loud populist, did one term, lost reelection and still works in americas messy democracy even with all the controvercy. You can criticise his autoritarian style or Jan 6 hard without making him a full nazi. That comparison just waters down how horible Hitler really was.

Like I said, the world is more split up than ever.

You haven’t really made any argument why you believe that comparison to not be valid.

Sure there are many differences between Trump and Hitler. It’s a different country, a different era and a different person. But when looking at ICE specifically I do think the German SA are a pretty accurate comparison in of function.

That’s only half the truth. The spiral of escalation has simply become much greater, and extremism is often portrayed as ‘normal’. Regardless of political orientation. But I don’t think we’ll reach an agreement on this topic here; this isn’t the place for it, and I don’t think you really want to have a constructive discussion. If by “everything right of center” you mean fascism and blatant lies yeah I think they should moderate that. The overton window has shifted so far to the right that basic human decency is treated as “left”.

I don’t think saying that the server accepts just blatantly false statements and racism as a good thing. Such things shouldn’t be accepted.
Considering how the extremely powerful tech oligarchs are and what they say I have learned to never trust it. They say they are for “free speech” but they will sneakily boost certain things and hide criticism of them or their allies. They are all for censorship, just not on them and they don’t like pushback.

I rather have one that moderates openly than one that does it in the shadows or in invisible ways.
