If Pinkie here was to lick the rod (Poor girl, don’t do that!), it’d taste… Metalic. Like licking a coin. But would be as dangerous, as licking any other heavy metal. Mostly due to heavy metal toxicity, rather than radiation.
Radiation would only become a problem, if she ate the whole thing, soooo.

Radioactive sources like plutonium and uranium only glow like that in intense heat, such as that created during nuclear fusion. Out of the reactor and under temperatures low enough such that you can stand close by, they’re more silvery or gray in color. They look no different from ordinary metals.
