I personally saw it as more “Sunset’s used a spell for this,” moreso than it is a species swap in her case… though it certainly evokes that feeling for sure.
I have had the thought that it would probably still be fitting for her to cloak her wings in magic fire as an actual/full alicorn, for something that’s come to mind recently.
(on the note of that last part, I ed this scene where it was the seemingly very rare instance of Zuko using his swords as an extension of firebending, on that note, though there may be a better example)
