Oh look, my first piece of 2026 is finally here! (I know it’s April, I’m sorry. It’s been a struggle.)
This time it’s a commission for @Derps456 of his original character, Tex, in the Interchange mall from Escape from Tarkov, ready and raring to go into battle. This is definitely among the most ambitious backgrounds I’ve ever made… at least persuasive enough that my boyfriend struggled to tell the difference between this and the reference I used. I’m pretty happy with that aspect of this, especially with those trash bags and the lighting from the skylight windows.
It’s been such a busy and bumpy time since my Illinois trip in late November 2025… It doesn’t feel great that I spent four months on this. My client was extremely patient with me throughout the process, so by the time it was already a month or so in, I really wanted to lock in and make this idea realized to the best of my ability. I’m very appreciative of his ability to wait and not push, and I hope it paid off in the end well enough. I think it’ll make a decent portfolio piece.
I won’t do this every time, but I decided again to add more progress images of this piece for you to scroll through on the DeviantArt or Instagram s. In this day and age… yeah, people appreciate seeing authenticity in the creative process. I’m just happy to see it come from that messy idea to the final product, especially with the drastic color changes to fit the environment that kept occurring in-between.
