You know how pigeons bob their heads when they walk?
Birds have such good ability to detect motion that they also have to hold their heads very still/level for it to work (1). You can actually get some really good image stabilization for boating by (temporarily) attaching a chicken to the top of the bow and putting a tiny camera on a tiny helmet.
(1)So with pigeons:moving their head forward they can’t really see as well (if at all in effect?), but when they step forward while moving the head back, thus keeping the head in the same place, they can spot danger well.
