Vinyl Scratch had a big Cheshire Cat grin on her face as she dove deeper down into the turquoise waters of Cabo San Luna. Octavia had told the unicorn that she needed to advantage of the mermaid spell casting that was being offered by the tour package they’d paid for.
Initially Vinyl had been skeptical of the whole thing. Seeing it as nothing as a gimmick, but her partner had tried it earlier in the day, and had come back afterwards with a big grin on her face.
“Vinyl dear! You simply must try it! Besides it’s already paid for as part of our tour package. You of all ponies will appreciate the Music of the Sea.
I may try it again tomorrow so I can see if I can and perhaps record some of it. I’d love to see if I can transcribe some of it for the cello!”
As the Vinyl swam deeper shapes started coming into view; soon she could make out a small smack of shimmering, silver jellyfish ri to meet her when they got within 20ft of her their colors shimmering for instant before their bells turned white and her cutie mark appeared as well. At the same time their tentacles took on the color of her mane.
These were the Mirror Jellyfish that Vinyl had been informed of as she going through her briefing before having the spell cast on her. The Mirror Jellyfish sting was effectively nonexistent and harmless to ponies only feeding on very small organisms, and the creatures often seemed be very curious of merponies and would often approach and follow them around.
Come to a halt the jellyfish slowly started circling Vinyl. As the mare watched she slowly became aware of sound. It took a moment for her to determine the source of the sound.
It was coming the from the jellyfish, and the sound was in time to the rhythmic expansion and contraction of their bells.
Wub. Wub. Wub. Wub.
Giggling Vinyl started humming their beat.
Wub. Wub. Wub. Wub.
The jellyfish increased their volume and Vinyl did the same; after a few more seconds the tentacles of the jellyfish started emitting a pulsating glow in time with the beat.
Wub! Wub! Wub! Wub!
Then Vinyl heard more of the same note. Slowly rising from the depths was dozens of glowing Mirror Jellyfish. Vinyl laughed and started creating dozens of glowing globes of light in assorted colors floating amongst them. Then she started zig zagging amongst her newly found partygoers and friends.
