Honestly, I think ears and a tail would be the best and easiest ways to do that. The costume itself is pretty perfect as is, so I can’t imagine what else you could do to change it for the better. Redheart does have a bun in her mane, but I’m not sure there’s a way to do that with the cap as is.
Looks very nice overall. Might be a little obscure for a general fan convention, but I doubt anyone at a pony convention would fail to recognize it.

There is really no need to add pony ears or a tail. What you really need is a little work on the hairstyle try making it look as close as possible to this.
