If you’re complaining about trends in brony art, it’s apparently much easier to combine a realistic-inspired horse head with a human body than an MLP head.
In the case of cows, goats, and donkeys, both options are acceptable. Older individuals tend to be heavier. Younger individuals are more adorable. Think of the bison! Ponies can be unusual too.
Them’s Fightin’ Herds characters fit the MLP style perfectly.
however, hasbro is confused in their own lore. what idiocy it is to show intelligent majestic deer and goats as full-fledged characters, and then make their background relatives unintelligent in the frame. the same with giraffes. Why are there zebras but no giraffes? no okapis?
and something else. Brony really don’t know how to create cool character designs, with a few exceptions.

makes sense to me, the other farm animal species in mlp are very rarely actually “characters”, so they have very goofy designs made for a quick laugh.

Excluding the comics, Fluttershy had some non-sapient deer that were with her other animals.
…and King Aspen is deer. Also, Great Seedling is implied to be deer-like.
