Got inspired to work on some canon MLP character lore in the setting of Capricorn Reef! Twilight’s backstory is pretty much the same from her point of view but there are a few things I changed for my head canon.
First and most obvious: She’s a bat pony! Well, a bat unicorn. In Capricorn Reef lore, bat ponies were created when Princess Luna corrupted and turned into Nightmare Moon, and she turned her loyal subjects into creatures of the night. So pegasi would turn into winged bat ponies, and unicorns and earth ponies would get various batty traits, like fangs and ear tufts.

So yeah! Twilight Sparkle, Night Light, Twilight Velvet? They all sound like great bat pony names XD And Twilight is more introverted, more recluse, was seen mostly indoors during the day before she moved to Ponyville.
Some other headcanons, Night Light, Twilight’s father, is a child’s psychiatrist who specializes with children with trauma and nightmares. Twilight Velvet is book publisher and a writer herself.
Shining Armor became the royal consort of the queen and lives in the Crystal Empire with his wife, Princess Cadence and their daughter Flurry Heart. The story of Capricorn Reef takes place after the last episode of the MLP:FiM Gen 4 show, so about 10-15 years later, so I wanted to try my hand at what I imagined she would look like as a young teenager. The straight edge bangs runs in the family!
Overall I don’t really have much else for Twilight’s backstory. If you all like this, I can do other mane 6 characters! Who should I do next?
Imagine having two kids expecting them to be like, mildly succesful and responsible adults… And one ends up becoming captain of the royal guard and prince of the Crystal Empire, and the other the absolute ruler of all Equestria. The Sparkle’s pride on their kids must be out of this world, if they sold books on how to raise properly they could have become also the richest ponies in the kingdom
