It’s not really a senior thing, it’s an evolutionary thing. Our caveman ancestors evolved so that, when they went into a new place, their entire attention was focused on looking for hazards (e.g. sabre tooth tigers) in the new place, totally removing whatever they had been thinking of previously. And, even tho we live in a safer world, we still instinctively shift focus to possible risks when we move into a new location.
