Smile Sing-Along for Shannon Chan-Kent

HEY THERE PEOPLE OF TODAY AND ROBOTS OF TOMORROW!
’TIS I, CLARK, BACK WITH ANOTHER DOSE OF WEIRDNESS!

For the most part, the earlier songs of Friendship is Magic’s run didn’t exactly wow me. Either due to annoying melodies or repetitive lyrics. Really, Equestria Girls had the better tunes all around while the main series began improving around Season 4. Probably no coincidence that’s the same season Weird Al Yankovic cameoed. That said, there was one major exception with Season 2’s “The Smile Song”. Granted, the episode it premiered in wasn’t exactly the stuff of legend, but Pinkie Pie’s proclamation to make everybody around her happy really struck a chord. I’ve always believed I was born with the purpose of making everybody laugh, so really this catchy declaration could be applied to yours truly as well. Not to mention, any frown that forms immediately vanishes upon listening to this track. Put simply, Smile makes me Smile. Er, that is the actual song from the show, not that bloody parody on YouTube some deranged sicko felt the compulsion to unleash onto the world.

Part of what makes Smile works are the lyrics, but equally important are the vocals. For those of you who don’t watch Friendship is Magic, the pink party pony’s hyperactive voice is usually provided by Andrea Libman, also known for portraying Fluttershy along with X23 in her debut on X-Men Evolution. Yes, seriously, google it. Unfortunately Libman couldn’t sing as her chaotic character, so that task was given to Shannon-Chan Kent, who most of you probably know best for a bunch of anime I haven’t / will never watch. Kent is the one who sings Smile, hence why she gets this picture from Hobo while he attends Fan Expo Denver. For the record, he claims Shannon loved it. Yet another reason to put a smile on my face, especially after how crap-tacular the rest of today has been.

As for how this picture was made, not much to say really. Originally the idea was to have Pinkie Pie duet with the Clarktooniverse’s equally friendly character, Rosie Stardust, before it was pointed out my giraffesona hasn’t made an appearance online in awhile. Such an oversight couldn’t be left alone, especially not by a narcissistic bastard like me. Especially not when my mammalian persona has a big, fluffy beard now. Nice, right? Other than that, it was just a matter of drawing the stage, adding in confetti, then crafting faux-sheet music for the top. The fact that this and that ZOINKS parody VHS tape was finished within a few days time is a freak’n miracle! Still, hopefully the end results are enough to make you all smile!

MAY THE GLASSES BE WITH YOU!

BONUS QUESTION: What’s something that always makes you smile no matter what?
