To be particular, what seems to be represented on the left is based on the Farina helmet and cuirass, an Italian design, though it seems to have some influence in its crest from the Adrian helmet (also used in Italy). The arm and face armour were not used by Italy, as far as I know, though similar masks were used by the German army among others. The right seems based on the Brewster Body Shield, an American design. The latter design does have a strong resemblance to the Kelly gang’s armour, though I don’t know if there was inspiration or if it was a coincidence.
Another interesting detail is that the Brewster Body shield shows up representing the “Fasina” armour in the Italian film Uomini Contro, which might be why the two are portrayed next to each other here. Or it could just be because they look cool.
