IGN pairing reviewers with the sort of game or media that’s completely outside of what they’re interested in and then publishing the negative review seems to be a time-honored tradition :)

I’ve noticed that disconnect sometimes between critic and audience reviews as well; it’s interesting. I appreciate RottenTomatoes for that. And when I’m in doubt, a quick look at some of the negative and some of the positive reviews until I find a few with substance usually sheds light on what’s going on.

I mean, critics look for quality, which doesn’t directly translate to being fun. It’s comparing apples to oranges at some point. Doesn’t help that critic scores can be too harsh at times while audience scores can be way too forgiving of trash at times.

True. Critics have shitty taste. Some of my favorite movies and other media have been trashed by “professional” critics, some by reviews on places like IMDB.

Broke: Listening to critics
Woke: Trusting your own gut and forming your own opinion
I don’t know. For some movies, the answer is “yes”.
