No, I totally get why they casted him and it fits. It’s just that I guess I’m so used to John de Lancie’s lower voice that hearing Kefka/Buggy/Corset just feels weird. Which is strange, since I haven’t had this problem with all other character’s Japanese voices.
@Amber
Chiba or Discord?… Actually, never mind, we can just call Chiba Discord/Kefka/Buggy like we call de Lancie Discord as evident by his alternate OC being simply Discord ponified. I’d compare any internationally recognized character to Mall Santas or something– Too tired to think coherently. XD
@Amber
Doesn’t it air when it’s Tuesday in America? That when ED posts a reminder, who’re based in America, Tuesday morning when it airs the night of… Actually, I don’t really know what time it is in Tokyo in the morning in America, so never mind. ^ _ ^;
@Shin32
His voices seem like they all have a verrrrry chaotic mix of high and low. Get a VA who’s chaotic, and it probably sounds good on paper, like the Buggy/Kefka guy. Discord is already a kabuki villain in the West, so they put in a kabuki villain VA in the East, yeah? :3
@Background Pony
Norio Wakamoto can do a lot of characters, not just hammy villains. I think his deep voice could lend itself well to Discord. Plus, most people want Wakamoto to do the voice…just because it’s Wakamoto!
Chiba, although fitting, I can’t help but feel that his normally high pitched just sounds weird on Discord. It could just be that I’m so used to John de Lancie’s deeper voice, but I don’t know. It just sounds kinda weird…
Wow, I’ve been advocating this forever, and it actually happened. Matter of fact, we also knew what Discord looked like many yonks before he was formally introduced thanks to his stained glass appearance in the background of the castle hall screen teased on EW. I’m the greatest. X3
At first I read that he voiced Raditz, and I was kinda concerned, but then I saw that he also voiced Buggy and Kefka; now I’m excited to hear how he’ll sound!

Take,someone managed to record a bit:

You hit the nail,he’s pretty much a Kabuki villain and it seems that’s how they viewed him.
He did a good work,imo.

I just heard it.
Mr Chiba delivered and delivered well.

Now imagine John De Lancie saying those kinds of lines.
Discord: “Gah, you sound like characters from a self-help booklet!”
Now this hopefully will shut up the people who wanted Norio Wakamoto to voice him.
Really,why were they so bent on him to play this role? Considering the type of characters Wakamoto voices,it would be silly to even implying it.
Chiba is a lot more fitting,just as Inoue proved to be perfect as Celestia.
Ah. Thanks!
The Japanese producer posted it on his Twitter : twitter.com/uchikoshi0705
Come to think of it, he voices a lot of clowns, doesn’t he?
