I would have liked to have seen a quick scene where Applejack asks the brothers if honorary family can participate in the contest, to which they initial refuse, stating that it’d be cheating, until Appljack calls them “chickens”.
I would have liked it if the Flim Flam brothers were not only cheaters and liars, but also hypocrites and double-standards.

I want the Flim Flams to return with all types of new inventions (electricity, fible, telephone, flying machines etc.) All of them would be potentially dangerous and enviromentally damaging (but they wouldn’t care) and would even get completely destroyed, or the ponies would adopt an improved version (maybe even compete with them in building less effective but safer/more sustainable versions). All manner of industrial revolution stuff could get introduced and parodied this way.
Technically, Fronzel, they’re both based on the guy from the Music Man specifically. That said, the entire process was an obvious ploy to try and get the supplies needed for the machine, if not cheap ,than for free. They knew the Apples couldn’t survive if they made the deal, and they knew the Apples couldn’t survive a market competition but that wouldn’t give the brothers everything. So they goaded the Apples on into making a hasty bargain that got the brothers both the apples and all the market share.

Wow, that’s a narrow frame of reference you’ve got there. Both are based on caricatures of 19th-century barkers, indeed infamous for dishonesty and slick talk.
But the stereotype is used sloppily because the brothers don’t lie about anything or try to perform any dishonest exchanges. They do offer a one-sided deal to the Apples, but they’re totally up-front about what the deal is. Being aggressive isn’t wrong.
Flim Flam brother would’ve had full control over the cider and could demand any amount of money for it, and they had a quality control that want into the red area on purpose also to meet demand, so I don’t think BP is really thinking about this too much at all.
^ No one every said the cider wasn’t good Fronzel, just that they ditched quality control to try and win. The Apples faced the same choice and didn’t. That’s why the Apples are better cider makers.
That one person who tasted the cider was Granny Smith, who just got done explaining how picky she was about cider. She takes one taste, then looks really worried.

That’s the best argument I’ve heard but the question is if that would be needed to fully supply the town. If they didn’t care about quality, you have to ask why they built the quality-control machine in the first place.
^^ They tried to scam the Apples into a lopsided deal so they could take the bulk of the profits. They were worst cider makers because they decided quantity beat quality, which it doesn’t. They were asked, and agreed, to allow the others to help. The Apples won, it happened in the episode, in a 100 percent fair contest as agreed to by those competing, hooves down.

Also, everything they did in that episode was flim flamory. They were conning the town and wanted to run the apples out of business and home. They could literally make the ponies pay any amount of money for the cider, that was the whole point, to rip off the town.
People seem to forget that Flim and Flam were fully willing to throw out ANY SENSE OF QUALITY in their product just to meet demand. They were not fit to run the cider business, because their goal was to meet high-volume demand, not to provide a good quality product. If they had a supply problem in the future, they would have had no problem selling everyone a terrible product– not to mention that they probably wouldn’t know the first thing about running an apple orchard, especially since they’re unicorns.

I think that was the point of the myth. Technology has its flaws, but in a war of attrition, it wins.
The way I heard it, John Henry was already an exceptionally strong and exceptional worker, and still collapsed dead after beating the machine.
