They literally didn’t care. Emmerich HATED Godzilla and the movie was his “middle finger” to the King of Monsters. Plus, he only did it for the money.
Speaking of, the only other media I’ve fallen asleep to was the production of Jesus Christ Superstar, and that was because I was on a cold medicine. I didn’t really like the play anyway.
I thought the movie was an alright popcorn flick. Hell I like to think what Toho does in their movies where the Americans did confuse Zilla for Godzilla.

Yeah, and at least I a good chunk of the human characters’ names and actually liked them (Miki Saegusa, Douglas Gordon, Daisuke Serizawa etc). The characters of the 1998 film were only likable in the show.

I think the worst about those movies is how much they are drowned into completely useless and boring sequences. If you cut out the bullshit you would have at least something barely appealing.

That movie was so wrong…
Is not just about the original Gojira, even the most childish and cheaper godzilla versus whatever of the series had a deeper plot and better characters than this insult to the human intellect.

Oh, and I’d like to add, as… divided as the Michael Bay Transformers movies are, at least those movies stuck fairly close to the source material and had a degree of enjoyment.
