The figures needed to be much Diverse…and I get, I get they want to sell dolls, so a simple build is the easiest to market

But I think the girls’ figures would be a WHOLE lot more better if they were more diverse in their builds instead of generic mannequin with swappble hair

Now I know, only Twilight was a pony, so this probably wouldn’t work

Imagine the girls with some over the top designs

I could picture Rarity as thin and long as Olive Oil
and perhaps Twilight as a tiny tiny person that reaches up to thighs (while carrying a book, mindy)

well, now that I have figured my problem out, I can get on with my life

I highly disagree with you on that, especially on someone like Ballistamon whom is pretty much just wearing a coat (then again, it might not really help that I read the manga [which I suggest anyone to do])

I mean everyone’s appearance fits their personality traits and their original color schemes perfectly (though Monimon’s and Starmons/Pickmons were random, even then the colors matches - Wizarmon’s first choice was an Otaku)

the only one that might be difficult would be Tailmon as she is obviously more based on Angewomon with a bit of Hikari adventure in the hair

Fair enough, but as far as humanizations go they don’t really resemble the original characters. Shoutmon and Dorulumon are the only ones I might recognize without the captions.

It was the only example that came to mind of a humanized cast of non-human characters where each member of the group has a very distinct build different to one another that I could use for comparison to what I was talking about
The fuck does his have to do with Digimon?

I think it’s in the plastic.

Well no shit those two are bad, at least EqG and MH have decently proportioned heads. Those two have giant-ass heads on little stick necks.

@Itsthinking roffles. Yeah, gotta love all those useless plastic tchotchkes that do nothing you get with the others. “Oh. Yeah. I would totally be combing her hair with this. If this comb wouldn’t break when you sneeze on it.” Pinkie and Novi stars I’ve heard are especially bad with that. You just look at it funny and it snaps.
@Niggoslav_Krawczyk
EqG dolls are half of the price of their competitors. Hasbro knows how to corner a market if nothing else.

Fortunately, an incredibly small uptick in “quality” allows companies to say “of course it costs a little bit more, but look at all of the [crap that costs us pennies to make] stuff you get!”

@Itsthinking Well, one part of that isn’t true anymore. Have you freakin’ seen how much those cheap-ass fashion dolls cost?!? In my day that’s what the articulated 12 inch collectibles used to cost! And lordy help you if they come with even a cheesy pop-out cardboard playset! That shit will set you back like $60! You could get a videogame!
I’m just happy that they eventually change Pinkie’s head shape in the final version.

It not only stopped being about anything kids, but it became insanely gendered (and this was treated as progressive by the public) and more importantly: it stopped being just about Christmas and birthdays.

Technology was getting to the point where development and marketing costs were so high that they had no choice but to market their products as something you buy all year round. Parents don’t want to buy expensive toys all year round, so they lowered the price by lowering quality.

Even the “best” American toys can’t hold a candle to the ones they have in Japan. I rag on them a lot, but they know how to design a toy.

@Itsthinking That, and the US toy industry hasn’t really been in a shape to do that since like the 70s or some shit. When it started being all about kids, they stopped giving a damn about the quality. Japan always knew their were budding otaku in children they could string along for life though, so you see a lot of differently molded and accurate models, the cheaper japanese toys merely use the same skeleton. Using Digimon as an example, I recall that cannon beetle from Frontier has very odd range of movement because he shares the same ‘skeleton’ as the other humanoids.

They’d have to drive prices up if they all gave them a unique mold. And would have to sell different clothing for each doll. It’s not worth it for something that’s relatively disposable.

I get all that, but I just don’t really find it appeasing…but hey, what can I say

*I’ll never have a steroid infused Rainbow Dash doll
The reason why they all had similar body types is because it is easier to animate/produce toys. In the show itself, there’s only a limited number of pony types.

The thing is that people always complain that dolls should be more representative of what people look like, but they probably wouldn’t like that. If they did make a “realistic” doll, you wouldn’t be able to share clothing between them. Yeah, that’s a great message.
