The picture I used came from a presentation I found online a few years ago, that was apparently used to explain the Virtual Boy to game developers.

So far, yet, in a way, so close.

Huh been forever since I saw that review, will need to watch it again sometime.

And yeah Nintendo itted it didn’t come close to their projected first year sales forecast, but I’m sure in the end it’ll do well enough for them. PS3 didn’t exactly get off to a great start last gen either, but hey it bounced back and now Sony’s doing great with PS4 (which is good for them since everything else is making them lose money; for emphasis, Nintendo’s stocks only got downgraded to “Sell,” Sony’s stocks got downgraded to “JUNK”).

But anyway yeah, while I’ll argue that the Wii U’s still far from a “failure” and can pull through this whole gen, I will fully agree the Virtual Boy was a big mistake. At least 3DS proves that 3D gaming can work when the technology is right (portable, affordable, and can be turned off if it gives you a headache).

Well, to be honest, I’m just going by a combination of popular opinion, and the fact that Nintendo has itted to the Wii U’ poor performance.

Also, I was paraphrasing a line from LittleKuriboh’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine review.

If I could afford it right now, I’d gladly put some money on this generation’s last place gaming console.

Comparatively, Wii U’s sales are hardly “abysmal” and still has a chance of bouncing back like the PS3 last gen, and unlike VB the Wii U doesn’t have some sort of horrible design choice (the GamePad is basically like holding a tablet with the proper buttons for actual gaming). Plus the VB was an attempt to hold people over while the N64 was in the making, making it a “filler console” that wasn’t portable, but also hard to play at home too.

The Wii U’s problem is more a lack of advertising, and they’ve acknowledged this and are taking steps to make improvements this year. Hell I’d say we’re already seeing this with the new Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze commercial (airing on TV weeks before the game’s release to build the hype among the less game-savy, letting people know “ONLY on Wii U”, a nice mix of gameplay footage and CG characters interacting with the real world, and reminds me of the creative commercials Nintendo made in the 90s).
Yep, the Wii U wasn’t Nintendo’s first abysmal failure…

That also work with the Atari Jaguar.
