@greaterlimits
That’s a distortion of the quote. What she actually said was “Rainbow Dash isn’t the kind of character who would treat a younger sibling AS WELL AS YOUNGER SIBLINGS ARE EXPECTED TO BE TREATED ON MLP”
@greaterlimits
I don’t think anyone is claiming it wasn’t a team effort. But Faust was good for big picture things, the general direction and dynamics of the show and its lore as a whole, and that’s where she tends to be brought up.
@greaterlimits
I don’t not being good with kids translates to none at all, just difficulty.
And this isn’t even Faust’s idea. This a proposed way things could have gone based on it not being the Princess Route. Faust could have easily gone unmentioned.
To back up my statement of how it could be worse, Faust wanted Rainbow Dash to not be good with kids like Scootaloo, so that means no Scootalove. See not all of her ideas are gold.
@Mr. Horrible
I agree, that’d be nice. I don’t give a rats beeswax what Faust would’ve wanted. She quit, doesn’t matter why, and she gets far far FAR too much credit.
She came up with the characters and the art style, but she only wrote the first two episodes and quite frankly they were probably the weakest episodes of the series. I mean they are cute and they serve their purpose but they aint my faves.
Its not like she animated it all herself, she wasn’t the director or the voice actresses.
It was a team effort and it wouldn’t have been nearly as good without all the elements, not just her.
Also, I will leave you with this mind blowing question: what if Faust never left and the show was actually WORSE? Its not impossible. We can never know for sure.
@Background Pony #56F9
Okay, fine. Yeah there are plenty of other “paths to greatness” that aren’t following Celestia’s hoofsteps, but a successor was what Celestia was after in the first place. Plus, a “personal student” in most all cases implies apprentice.
As much as I want to believe that, Faust has pretty much said that her plans for Twilight are irrelevant now that she is no longer with the show. There’s not much point to speculating about what could have been or what males more sense on a personal level.
@HamburgerTime
Why can’t it just be to help her live up to her full abilities as a great wizard? She was definitely setting up Twilight for something big, but why does that something necessarily have to be following in Celestia’s hoofsteps? Why is it so unreasonable to think Celestia was grooming Twilight to follow a path to greatness different from Celestia’s?
@Background Pony #56F9
, she wasn’t teaching Twilight anything princess-related; she was teaching her “to tame these abilities through focused study”. She was studying magic and magic alone; Celestia didn’t even push her to make friends until it was necessary to stop Nightmare Moon, and only gave her the mission to study the “magic of friendship” as an excuse to let her stay in Ponyville.
@HamburgerTime
Uh, because it’d be a terrible idea for a pony with that much raw power to go untrained, and Celestia doesn’t trust anypony else to do it?
Well, Twi was always meant to be Celestia’s successor, not just as a school principle, but as bloody princess. If you think about it, why else would Celestia teach a personal student other then as an apprentice?

In other words:
I don’t think anyone is claiming it wasn’t a team effort. But Faust was good for big picture things, the general direction and dynamics of the show and its lore as a whole, and that’s where she tends to be brought up.
Everyone has their flaws and I agree, not all of Faust ideas are good.
No Scootalove and Dashie not maturing into an individual that becomes good with kids would be a bad move.

What people stopped obsessing over everything Hasbro™ ever said or thought about FiM like it’s some kind of damn holy scripture?

Yeah, but to what purpose? What would Twilight become? Having a “personal student” just implies apprentice.

“Professor Twilight Sparkle” is so much cooler and makes so much more sense than Princess Twilacorn.
