@Mob I agree. The original was amazing and no remake could ever top it. But the new movie was a prequel and I think it was a great ad-on to the original. But no where near as good as it.

Hey. Hey guys. Look at the tags. Click on the one that says ‘the thing’ and has the number 18 in parentheses. We’ve already ‘made it happen.’ And to chime in on the prequel thing, I love the ’82 movie, one of my favourites, and I loved the prequel. Not as good, of course, but solid.

The events in this film take place before the events in John Carpenter’s The Thing. Therefore, it is a PREQUEL.

Let me be more specific. THIS movie, the 2011 The Thing film, is a direct PREQUEL to John Carpenter’s The Thing.
 
It is not a remake.

Ok, to make sense on what I mean, it started as a short novel “Who Goes There?”, the bases for the move “The Thing from Another World” that was called The Thing before the John Carpenter movie that was a remake of it, and this one was so bad to me I some how blocked it from my mind.  
So i got confused by you saying prequel, THERE IS NO PREQUEL… see blocked it from my mind again, that fast.

I actually saw a video of the practical animatronics. Holy shit they were fucking amazing. Then I read that they just put mediocre CG on top of the animatronics. Fucking insulting.

The prequel tried so hard. But in the end it felt like a copy with the thrills of the original without the character development or the awesome animatronics.
