Background Pony #1460
My headcanon is that Luna just represses her feelings and pretends that the 1,000 years were nothing, and Princess Celestia just pretended, and continues to, pretend to be sad/guilty bout banishing her sister so that her subjects will look upon her as even more benevolent than they already did. Luna was tormented by Nightmare Moon while on the Moon, and Celestia used her telescope to watch her sister’s pain and struggle when night time came and she could look at it, even though the torment lasted even during the day. Luna developed severe stockholm syndrome, and basically fell in love with Nightmare Moon and Celestia, so when Nightmare Moon was separated from her, she was totally destroyed mentally, and all of Equestria’s citizens despise her, and refuse to view, or even treat, her as a princess.
Oh hey I wondered why this was on Page 1 again…

Though why was it re-ed? I can see it was merged, but the reason eludes me.

Geez, long comment much?
Deletion reason: No reason given
And it’s more than likely very, very canon.

Heavy is the head that wears the crown, especially one that’s been alone for a thousand years.

Even when your choice is between kill or be killed, a noble heart must consider how they reached that point.

Staining your sword with the blood of your kin is never something to be prideful of.

My heart, that was beautiful.
^ Can’t tell if tongue-in-cheek or not…
Little Luna is a selfish terrible horse who doesn’t understand farming and would rather have her subjects starve! What a terrible terrible pony, Celestia should feel proud she punished such an evil and selfish horse. <3
Wise and joyous but with a deep sadness for everything she’s had to do as a ruler.

That is my favorite interpretation of Celestia.
