I would think it would be asset reuse, and if they are doing this for the Halloween (aka Nightmare Night) episode that is rumored, that would be the quickest way to make a mean Celestia.
If we took the theory that the finale would be the present where Starlight prevents the mane 6 from getting their CMs, I can’t see how they could explain Celestia going evil in those 1-2 years. But even if that’s the case, they found a nice convinient reuse of the Alicorn Amulet for this purpose.
End of the day: time is money: art asset reuse is a major time savings.

I was the anon who posted a while back in >>941920 my theory on Celestia becoming Nightmare Star in the season finale after Starlight messes up the past and prevents the Mane Six from ever ing by sabotaging the first Rainbomm.
This actually makes more sense if it ends up being true. Celestia crossing the Godzilla Threshold by using the Alicorn Amulet to defeat Nightmare Moon and its inherent insanity causes her to turn into Nightmare Star.
Will it end up becoming true on all my s or not? I’m just speculating, but man, it will be a surprise if that’s what the finale will show.
