It’s like stories about the faerie folk, they can twist time and make a short visit take many years or centuries on the outside. I’m hoping they’ll drop the act once they’re freed so we can get a real conflict going. Not saying they’ll automatically be stereotypically evil, just different enough to explain why there was a conflict to begin with.
@Darth Sonic
Different circumstances than us - the Umbra are another species fuelled by their nature. Nazis and soviets are the same species as us with different and still exisiting philosophies than non-nazis and soviets.
@Darth Sonic
I see your point, but I don’t think it would have changed Sombra’s outcome much, unless there was someone else with him when he bumped into an Umbrum, like Amore or Hope, though they would be able to help regardless.
@Stotter
Well, until the Umbrum brainwash him. Yeah, that beam they shot at Sombra’s head pretty much triggered his more evil tendancies and made him violent, even quickly turning on Radiant. If he had been more wary, perhaps it would have taken longer, but out in the wilderness he had no way of really defending himself.
Yes, going over the Umbrum in history and other such things would have helped Sombra, but the Crystal Ponies really didn’t believe the Umbrum were a threat anymore. So they got lazy, something that can happen to even us over time. It’s been years, perhaps decades, since any Umbrum were ever seen or dealt with as well as the Crystal Heart keeping them at bay.
This is why they should have covered the umbrum in history class, to prevent this kind of thing from happening. Maybe there would been a slim chance Sombra’s face-heel turn could have been prevented too if he learned about his kind from ponies. I can imagine it: Realizing what he is and feeling enough guilt for the sins of his kind to want to atone on their behalf or even just go out of his way to prove he isn’t like the rest only to be reassured that Amore always believed in him.
Ah, this explains what she was doing in the arctic wastelands in the last issue. That’s One mystery solved.
So let’s see, in addition to her healing magic and age spells, her immortality could now also be explained by her being sent 1000 years into the future by the Umbrum to rescue Sombra, if @PonyPon is right about time in their world. We’ll see what they went with soon.
That wouldn’t mean much in the modern era. That though might be the key. This takes place 1000 years ago.

It’s been decades since we dealt with the Soviets, and more than half a century since we fought the Nazis.
How many people living today don’t know of both?

Maybe, maybe not.
It’s not clear yet whose side we’re supposed to be on.
Despite the existence of the race nuke.
Yeah, but the Umbrum could always say that the Crystal Ponies lied about them.
Lying, no, but i’m sure they’re going to be deceptive about the nature of their captivity.

Lies? The Umbrum aren’t lying here. They’re just presenting facts in a less obviously manner.
Called it.
Do they live in some kind of alternate nether-plane where time has no meaning?
