Sombra was never the true ruler of the Empire. Besides that, well, of course you can attack another nation for moral reasons, like when you have some tinfoil emperor declaring he wishes to enslave you. And that is still going with Celestia and Luna having attacked first instead of Sombra attacking them.
Also, what’s a “modern” army? Machineguns? In other words, stuff that doesn’t exists in Equestria? Is Celestia a bad commander for not having weapons that she couldn’t have?

I don’t know in real life you can’t just attack any country based on morality, celestia did so during the initial fight for the crystal empire, however her armies lost much of the strength they once possessed making them much weaker so either she started it or not she let it happen by not maintaining a strong army and they are just slapping each other so honestly I don’t know why they’re struggling as modern army could crush sombra’s medivel army with ease, in other words celestia isn’t a fit military commander
Scientists have studied this defensive shield spell that Celestia summons and their findings were quite interesting. It’s comprised of millions of identical hard light particles. They’ve isolated one of the particles and magnified it several hundred times. What you see may or may not surprise you.
Something I truly appreciate is the looks of genuine concern on Celestia’s face. Concern for her soldiers. Her little ponies. It shows just how much she cares.
