Personally I think their size is more reflective of their connection with their special attributes than anything else, after all the sun is much bigger than the moon but can still be eclipsed by it, while love is often thought of as more important and solid than friendship hence why Cadance is bigger than Twilight despite purple-smart most likely outclassing her with magic.

Aha! I figured it out, Alicorns don’t grow based on raw power, but from the adoration of their subjects. Which explains why Celestia would be the largest, then Luna, then Cadence with her smaller kingdom, and finally Twilight.

Celestia’s horn is also sticking out of her left eye instead of center of her forehead, and Luna’s’s on top of her head. And other screencaps make it juuust a tad hard to determine how much smaller Luna is. One thing known, though, Celestia is HUGE.
And does it really make sense for a slight difference in genetics to affect them after they became alicorns?
Yes. While Twilight did get taller after alicorning, she’s got way more raw power than Cadence - and yet Cadence is still taller than Twilight. Unlike Luna, who grew taller between S1 and Luna Eclipsed.

That first reason is tragic, but I don’t think so since we can see them fighting and Luna looks to be the same height. The Second makes more sense, but then again it’s also kinda sad for Luna, that she’s forced to literally be in Celestia’s shadow.Then again NMM proved she could put up more then a fair fight.

I don’t know exactly, but I’m wagering either on Luna’s banishment having some negative effects or that size in directly connected to their power and Celestia’s connection to sun gives her more raw power.

I meant their fully grown Alicorn-selves. Celestia is about 50% larger than Luna, is it just fat or is Celestia just abnormal by Alicorn standards?

I think the conclusion is clear, Celestia is Obese.
Celestia is a bit taller. They’re not twins, it’s perfectly normal to have siblings of slightly different height.
That, and Tia loves cakes.

They are a few years apart and still kids, so yeah, Celestia is going to be a bit bigger.
