At least in Sun and Moon, you can get the Shiny Charm by ing all 300 Pokémon in Alola’s Pokédex (excluding Mythical Pokémon and those found using Island Scan).
Still love Pokemon, but there’s NO WAY that anyone but the hardest of the hardcore fans are gonna be able to catch all 700+ Pokemon currently in existence.
On the one hand I love that the 20th anniversary event has put out so many mythic pokemon so my collection is almost complete now.
On the other hand, it just makes it all the more frustrating when that means that I’m only going to be missing something like six pokemon. :T (Missed out on Mew by like 2 days, and haven’t gotten any of the bullshit ‘go to gamestop’ ones.)

Without event Legendaries, The pokedex requires that you catch 706 of the little buggers. (707 in ORAS because Deoxys got demoted to a regular legendary in those games.)

‘only’ I believe 706 when you exclude the event-exclusives. As far as the professors care you’re ‘dex is complete. (I have 708, got the celebi from the pokebank thing, and phione are easy to get since they’re breedable. When I’m bored I hatch a few and wonder trade them to beef up my trainer ID pool for the lottery)
