I only know very little modern Khalkh Mongolian (next to nothing), but I sure know Mongolian script and its modified version for Manchurian well.
The most frustrating obstacle in learning the script is the fact that it heavily relies on vowel harmony even though there are 4 O’s. As for the spelling, it certainly has changed a lot from Middle Mongolian, to which Inner Mongolian is found somewhat closer, you can still seek a transitional rules in phonetic shifts

Yes, the Mongolian writing are lacking diacritical marks, such as in Arabic

Do you know/speak traditional mongolian?
On the basis of those materials in Russian that I found, it was obvious that the pronunciation of classical and modern languages differ. For example:

ᠢᠯᠠᠯᠲᠠ - ilalta (classic) and yalalt (modern).
Of course I’m not going to teach itself the Mongolian language. I do not have the strength. But to master writing would be interested.

Just a quick correction here:
It should be ᠨᠠᠶᠶᠲᠮᠠᠷ ᠮ᠋ᠦᠨ, in which the vowel i is supposed to be doubled as a part of the diphthong in night→[naɪ̯t]

Love the script as well, it’s graceful being written with any pens <3

The writing system geek within me bounces with joy. I’ve given up on trying to wrap my brain around the mongolian script though, so I won’t be able judge the quality of the transcription. The contextual forms, the ligatures and all the letters that look the same – it’s just too confusing. It looks awesome though.
I don’t usually like text-over edits, but this is a very good fit.
