I’m mostly indifferent to it, but by no means will I say the writer doesn’t know what he’s doing. It was there to show the sort of setting a “Fake Comedy Villain” would work.
A lot of folks in these comments want this guy to be a complete joke, for him to produce no actual tension, drama, or fear. Because they don’t want to see another good comedy piece become something it’s not because the writer ran out of ideas.
I understand this, but disagree. Nothing breaks me out of a story than a promise of something more purposely broken for a cheap laugh. Setting up serious plot arcs only to go “HAHA, made you look, now here’s a punchline mocking your emotional investment!” is a surefire way to make a quite a few folk drop a story.
A think you should go the DBZ Abridged route: terrifying and effective villains who are still able to in on the hijinks.
Or Hell, something like Flowey from Undertale: at first glance looking as light hearted as the rest of the setting, but you can just tell something is wrong…
Just don’t go the “Fake Comedy Villian” route. It doesn’t work outside of pure comedies like South Park and 8-Bit Theater.
