Yeah it sure was a clusterfuck of a lore…..which is why MK9 was a literal reboot within the canon. At the time it helped trim a lot of fat from the lore and tightened the narrative focus to the events that truly mattered in the grand scheme, allowing new players to make sense of the story better even if only by a little.
Whether or not MKX then went and made it a clusterfuck again or not is up for debate. At the very least Shao Kahn is actually dead for good……and Liu Kang didn’t come back as a lame zombie….

Well the ninth game was a reboot like Star Trek with Raiden sending a message to his past self to fix things but really messes things up.

I really stopped knowing about the games after 3 X_X just learned about the latest stuff on a cracked.com video (how MK is supposedly more complex than game of thrones)

Yep, Bi Han, the older brother who not only died by Quan Chi’s creation Scorpion but is then resurected by that very necromancer. And thus the moniker “Sub Zero” is taken up by the younger brother Kuai Liang.
I want to see Scorpion and Sub-Zero competing in the Friendship Games. Scorpion teams up with Canterlot High, while Sub-Zero competes alongside Crystal Prep.
